LeafNote vs Generic AI Note Tools
General AI tools can generate text, but they are not designed for clinical documentation. Here is how LeafNote compares.
Why generic AI tools can be risky for therapy notes
Most general-purpose AI tools process raw input on external servers without removing sensitive identifiers first. When therapists paste session notes containing client names, phone numbers, or email addresses, that information is transmitted and processed alongside the clinical content.
This creates a privacy gap: the therapist has no control over how the AI provider stores, processes, or retains that sensitive data. For clinical documentation, this gap can have serious consequences.
How LeafNote approaches this differently
LeafNote detects supported identifier patterns in the browser before submission. Phone, email, address, date, identifier, and context-labeled name patterns are replaced locally and shown to the therapist for review. Automated redaction is not complete de-identification.
The output is a structured SOAP draft for clinician review. Stored clinical text is application-encrypted and database access is account-scoped; external processing remains subject to the active provider agreement and production configuration.
